A Mother’s Day of Hope

06 May 2026

For eight years, Joanne lived with heartbreak.

Multiple miscarriages. Endless appointments.  No answers.

Each time she walked into a doctor’s office, she hoped for clarity – and each time she left with more uncertainty.

“I felt like I was stuck in a cycle of hope and loss,” Joanne says. “No one could tell me why this was happening.”

Despite extensive testing, there were no clear answers. No diagnosis. No clear path forward.

A Different Approach

Joanne was eventually referred to Dr Simon Jiang at the Centre for Personalised Medicine (CPM) at Canberra Hospital.

Here, the approach was different.

Rather than treating symptoms or relying on trial and error, the CPM looks deeper, using advanced genomic testing to uncover the underlying cause of complex conditions.

Many of our patients have been searching for answers for years,” says Dr. Jiang. “Personalised medicine allows us to move beyond guesswork and understand what’s really driving their condition – so we can treat it properly.”

This was the case with Joanne.  Joanne has lupus and through genetic testing, Dr Jiang and his team identified a mutation driving her autoimmunity. Once the cause was identified, a targeted treatment plan began.

From Uncertainty to Hope

For the first time in years, Joanne feels something she hadn’t felt before.

Clarity.
Confidence.
Hope.

“It’s completely different to what I experienced before,” she says.  “This isn’t guesswork.  It feels like the treatment is finally right for me.”

A Different Mother’s Day

For Joanne, Mother’s Day has long been a painful reminder of what she had lost.

This year feels different.

“My hope is that this year, with the right treatment, we will finally be able to welcome the child our family has long been hoping for.”

For the first time in years, Mother’s Day is no longer defined by grief – but by possibility.

Why Your Support Matters

Joanne’s story is not unique.

Many patients with complex conditions spend years searching for answers, often without success.

The Centre for Personalised Medicine is changing that.

By identifying the root cause of disease and delivering targeted treatment, the CPM is giving patients something they’ve often lost – a clear path forward.

Help Give Families Hope

When you are going through something complex and no one can give you clear answers, it is incredibly hard, both physically and emotionally.

Being able to access personalised medicine changed that for me. It gave me answers, a clearer path forward, and real hope again.
